Zomato (Foodiebay) was founded by Pankaj Chaddah, Gaurav Gupta and Deepinder Goyal in 2008. Deepinder came up with the idea of Foodiebay seeing his colleagues consistently ask for paper menu leaflets of different restaurants for ordering food. The solution was an app which digitized these paper menus and leaflets, making it easier to browse through the menus of different restaurants from the comfort of one's phone.

The company claims to be growing at a steady rate of 20 percent MoM, which is a tad lower than the growth rate during demonetisation.
